Museum of History of Catalonia

The Museum of the History of Catalonia (MHC), located in Plaça Pau Vila in Barcelona, is a space dedicated to the narration of the culture and history of Catalonia. This building, built in 1901, was originally used as a General Trade Warehouse. It is a characteristic example of 19th century port architecture and now houses the museum, as well as the Contemporary History Center of Catalonia, the Department of Justice of the Generalitat of Catalonia, and several new technology and gastronomic catering companies.

The museum was inaugurated on February 29, 1996, with the aim of making the citizens of Catalonia rediscover their history. It was born without its own collection, explaining the history of Catalonia through didactic museography resources and documentation and objects from other museums and collections.
